Mathiya Adams has lived in Denver for more than thirty years, but her job as a corporate trainer often kept her away from the city she loved. Then one day, she took the plunge to follow her  dreams and stay home and write about a character who had lived inside her head for several decades: a disgruntled detective who runs a hot dog stand and studies foreign languages to wile away the time.

Mark MacFarland was her idea of the ultimate hero. Not the kind who saves the world single-handedly, but the kind who cares about what he is doing and does his best. He makes mistakes, often because he acts without thinking. Fortunately, he has Cynthia Pierson to do his thinking for him. He just needs to come to his senses and realize that.
